My name is Fr. Brad Sjoquist (pronounced show-kwist), and being a priest for the Newman Center is one of the best parts of my current assignment. Thanks for taking the time to check out our website.
I grew up in Kingsford, MI, and, after high school, I went to Central Michigan University where I became very active in the student parish. I saw firsthand how much good a campus ministry could do. While at CMU, I discerned a vocation to priesthood. After six years at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, I was ordained a priest in 2015.
My first parish assignment was in Menominee, MI, where I served as parochial vicar to Holy Spirit and Resurrection parishes and taught at St. John Paul II Catholic Academy. Following that assignment, the bishop sent me back to school. I spent four years in Rome, Italy, completing licentiate and doctoral degrees in moral theology.
Since July 5, 2022, I have been pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Sault Ste. Marie and the Newman Center at LSSU. I continue to do some academic work, and I love talking philosophy and theology. I'm happy to meet students and faculty for coffee or hot chocolate. Don't hesitate to reach out if you would like to meet. I look forward to seeing you at the Newman Center!
